Fair Stuff

Today was “clean all the stuff” day at the fair.  We cleaned all the display stuff and tables and chairs we use in Building 3.  Not everybody was there.  There was only one quilter and the other superintendent of knitting was MIA (she has since been found).  We got it all done in an 1 1/2 hours.  1 1/2 painful hours.  The stuff my mom had donated to the fair showed it.  When she donated it she never saw any of it again so she thought they just threw it away or something.  There were some mannequins and heads for hats.  There were also three hands that the superintendent of crochet was completely confused on how to use them so me and mom brought them home.  Oh yeah!  Going to be able to take pictures of my gloves on hands!

I’ve really enjoyed working for the fair the last couple of years (the first year I actually volunteered and therefore didn’t get paid).  This year has been kind of scary though.  Last year the fair went to an online only fair book and our entries were way down.  This year they’re trying out a new online registration for fair entries.  We only expected disaster.  At the meeting a couple weeks ago they had only 400 entries.  Way down from the 4000 they usually have.  Yesterday was the last day to pre-register.  Today mom found out from the wonderful lady who manages the fair entries that we have 6000 entries!  It should be a good fair.  Plus who knows how many more we’ll get on the actually days to turn in your entries since we are letting people register on those two days.  Originally they weren’t going to do that but then they looked at the 400 number they had and decided to change that.

I only have 6 entreis this year and none in crochet.  I made three lace shawls and I can only enter one.  And I haven’t even made a singe sock this year!  I had two pairs entered last year.  Really hoping that I can win a grand champion on my mystic star shawl, or first or second best of show.  I just want one of the pig purple ribbons and the minuscule amount of prize money that goes with them.  I think’s it’s $10, but it used to be higher.  You used to be able to get $5 for a blue ribbon but that’s been bumped down to $3.  If I had been thinking I would have gone down to Alpaca Direct and ask them if they wanted to sponsor any prizes.
